Ceiling-Based Robotic Systems for In-Hand Logistics:
Fully automated logistics from Factory to Hand - in the home, on the street, in the park, in the office, in the store - almost anywhere!
First of 20 animations that demonstrate the ever evolving capabilities of the Stakabl System
Humanoid robots are not very practical - especially in cluttered floor home/office environments! How does such a robot access storage - high cabinets (get on a ladder?) or low cabinets (get on its hands and knees, pull everything out to get to what is in the back?)?
For optimal robotics/automation/logistics, the environment needs to be adapted to the most efficient and out-of-the-way system. If you think about what it takes to do a task, all that is needed is one or two arms/hands (manipulators) and a set of eyeballs (cameras) - everything below the armpits is just there to move those around. Why build all that extra complication in a robotic system?

Renowned roboticist Rodney Brooks has a wake-up call for investors funneling billions into humanoid robot startups: You’re wasting your money.
Brooks, who co-founded iRobot and spent decades at MIT, is particularly skeptical of companies like Tesla and the high-profile AI robotics company Figure trying to teach robots dexterity by showing them videos of humans doing tasks. In a new essay, he calls this approach “pure fantasy thinking.”
Brooks predicts that in 15 years, successful “humanoid” robots will actually have wheels, multiple arms, and specialized sensors and abandon the human form. Meanwhile, he’s thoroughly convinced that today’s billions are funding expensive training experiments that will never scale to mass production.
Stakabl is a Silicon Valley based startup developing patented ceiling based robotic and logistics solutions for:

and More!
The system comprises a simple grid of Storage Cells and integrated Rails (like a Drop Ceiling) with optional power in the grid for appliance modules and other functions requiring an energy source.
The Cells support stacks of Trays that are held in place by spring loaded latches actuated by an XY Ceiling Robot.
The battery powered XY Robot travels on the Rails and supports a cable driven Z Platform "Elevator".
The Z Platform raises, lowers and delivers the Trays anywhere for in-hand fulfillment of requested items via Siri, Alexa, etc.
Trays can be handed off to other robots (floor, service, delivery, drone, etc.).
There are two types of Trays:
1. Storage Trays - "dumb" from 1 inch up to multiple feet tall (in 25mm increments).
2. Tray Modules - "smart" and powered with unlimited functionality.
AI will enable predictive ordering and inform delivery time for requested items.
$60K in cash and $1.5M in sweat equity invested by founder.
A full-scale mockup has been built and the mechanical design of the Ceiling Storage Cells, XY Robot and Storage Trays are 100% complete - ready to build.
A prototype of the 75mm tall Storage Tray and one ceiling cell has been produced.

1. No large vertical structure required
2. Minimal to zero "digging" required
3. Small trays instead of large bins
4. Short depth trays vs one deep bin
5. Very tall trays possible (up to six+ feet)
6. Space below can be utilized
7. Picking can take place at any location
8. Direct interface to floor robots
9. Can retro-fit into existing structures
10. Utilize wasted volume above ceilings
11. Simple "Drop Ceiling" installation
12. "Hot Swapping" batteries (no wait!)
13. Full automation from factory to hand
14. Tray Modules for other functionality:
* Robot Arms
* Dispensing
* Appliances
* Batteries
* Growing
* Vacuum Bots
* Robot Heads
* Floor Bots
* Companion Bots
* And More!!
In the home the system will learn each individual's routine and present items when and where they are needed - breakfast, workouts, drinks after work, sports, etc.
When an item is requested, the system will inform the length of time for delivery - from seconds, to minutes, to hours, to days - depending on where in the world the item is located.
The requestor will be informed of price options depending on speed of delivery and the source of the requested item (neighbor, corner store, Big Box, Amazon, etc.)
75% of containers arriving in the U.S. return home empty - we return storage trays to be re-filled at factory
Enables Storage Trays, Dispensing Trays and Storage Containers to be returned for re-filling with CPGs, bulk items, etc.
Store and protect Trays (Storage and Dispensing) during transport to and from factories or warehouses
Trays are not powered and hold items up to 12.0in X 12.0in from 1.0in up to 48.0in tall
Modules are the same size as Trays and are powered to enable nearly unlimited functionality
Tray Modules that automatically dispense bulk items, CPGs, beverages, tableware, condiments, spices, etc.
All electric systems with hot-swapping batteries - no waiting to charge! Batteries are packaged in standard Tray sizes
Sealable containers designed to optimally fit in Storage Trays which enable re-filling (milk-man model)
Packaging is reduced or eliminated due to the return of Storage Trays, Dispensing Trays and Storage Containers for re-filling
